A motorist has lost her licence after drinking two shandies described it as a ‘serious error of judgement’.
Stroud Magistrates’ Court heard how, Erika Bottyan, hadn’t planned to drive but she gave in to her sons unwillingness to walk home from a party, so drove her vehicle and clipped another car.
Police were called to the scene after Bottyan, collided with a ‘badly parked’ car and police were called.
A breath test at a nearby police station revealed a reading of 69 micrograms of alcohol in 100 militres of breath almost double the legal limit.
Bottyan, admitted a charge of drink driving.
Magistrates’ banned her from driving for 12 months, which could be reduced to nine months on successful completion of a drink driver rehabilitation course.

A woman who drove across a level crossing on the wrong side of the road moments after the barriers started to come down has been banned from driving for 15 months.
Allanah James, appeared before Carmarthen Magistrates’ for sentencing after pleading guilty to dangerous driving at an earlier hearing.
CCTV footage shown James heading towards the crossing when the barriers started to come down. A vehicle stopped in front of her, when she overtook the vehicle, going around the vehicle and through the crossing quickly before continuing on her journey.
Magistrates told James that it was a very serious offence and that she could have been facing a prison sentence.
However, following background reports on her by the probation service, the bench gave James a community order which is to be supervised for 12 months.
James was also disqualified from driving for 15 months and must retake her driving test at the end of the ban before being allowed to continue driving.

A taxi driver could be facing suspension after he was caught speeding three ties in one morning – on the same road.
Dean Gillard, has blamed the council for landing him in a ‘chaotic pile of mess’ by lowering the speed limit along Gydnia Way, Plymouth.
The cabbie, previously had a clean licence until he was caught speeding along the city centre route three times in just over four hours.
He has complained that there is not a single road sign along the stretch advising other drivers of the 30mph speed limit.
Gillard, admitted the speeding offences at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court and now has nine penalty points on his licence.

A soldier is facing demotion after being convicted of drink driving.
Liam Brady, pleaded guilty to drink driving at Furness Magistrates’ Court.
Brady, is currently serving in the army as a vehicle commander and is set to under take another tour of duty in September.
The court heard how Brady was breathalysed after hitting another vehicle.
The breath test revealed a reading of 94 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.
The court heard that a disqualification from driving would lead to Brady being stripped of his rank and demoted.
Brady was disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to pay a £450 fine, £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

A motorist was found to be four times the legal drink drive limit after stumbling from his car.
Magistrates’ heard how, Steven Norcross, was tracked by police dogs from his vehicle to a nearby pub.
The court heard how an anonymous caller reported Norcross to police after he was seen stumbling and swaying once leaving his vehicle.
Police dogs were used to track Norcross as he walked to the nearby pub.
Norcross at first denied the charge and only changed his plea before his trial. The court heard how he also had a previous conviction for drink driving in 2007.
Magistrates’ gave him a 20 week prison sentence which was suspended for two years.
Norcross was also banned from driving for five years and ordered to pay £550 costs.

Almost 170 offences were identified and dealt with during a five day campaign aimed at lorry drivers.
Suffolk Police’s casualty reduction team carried out the large goods vehicle enforcement campaign last week.
Officers patrolled the A14, A11 and A12 dual carriageways with the aim of detecting offences that could lead to drivers being distracted such as using a mobile phone, eating, drinking or reading a map while driving.
During the five days, a total of 168 offences were identified.
There were 120 seatbelt offences resulting in drivers receiving a £60 fixed penalty notice and there were 23 mobile phone offences where drives received a £60 fixed penalty notice and three points on their licences.
Eleven drivers also received a fixed penalty notice and three points as being identified as not being in proper control of their vehicle.
Three drivers were caught speeding and one driver was found to be committing a licence offence.

A decision to drive 500 years home has proved costly for an 82-year-old motorist.
John Glen, was more than twice the drink drive limit when he was stopped by police officers after driving at just 10mph.
Magistrates heard how officers stopped Glen’s vehicle after he was spotted driving at 10mph in a 30mph zone. Officers immediately smelt alcohol and a breath test revealed a reading of 72 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath – double the legal limit.
Glen admitted driving with excess alcohol and was banned from driving for 20 months. He was also fined £160 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

A private ambulance operator who overtook traffic at speeds of up to 100mph under blue flashing lights has been fined £500 of careless driving.
Andrew Gibson, was cleared of a dangerous driving charge after telling the jury he believed he was driving to a medical emergency.
Gibson was seen crossing double white lines and overtaking traffic by using the cross-hatched areas in the middle lane at a series of junctions.
A police patrol car had to reach speeds of up to 130mph to catch the ambulance.
Gibson would have faced an automatic driving ban if he had been found guilty of dangerous driving at Exeter Crown Court.
Instead, he received three penalty points and will be able to continue working as a private paramedic.
Gibson, insisted he needed to use blue flashing lights on his trip from Barnstable to Bristol to pick up an emergency call, however this was disputed by the hospital.
He was found guilty of careless driving, fined £500 with £1,000 cost and received three penalty points.

A drink driver told police officers: ‘You’ve got me’ after he was stopped in Redruth.
Kevin Trethowan, was breathalysed at the scene which revealed 51 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millitres of breath.
Trethowan, pleaded guilty at Truro Magistrates’ Court to drink driving.
The court heard how police officers stopped Trethowan after officers noticed his vehicle speeding. It is thought that he panicked after realising police were following him.
When Trethowan was pulled over, he told officers ‘OK, fair enough. I have been drinking. You’ve got me.’
The self employed mechanic was banned from driving for three years and fined £160 and 100 costs and surcharge.
The court also heard he had a similar conviction in 2006.
