British motorists have claimed that using a mobile telephone is a small distraction for them whilst driving, according to a recent survey by Admiral.
The insurance company polled 3,164 motorists with a list of common distractions found on UK roads.
The results shown below, interestingly show that only 10% of motorists questioned admitted that they were distracted by speaking on a mobile telephone while 37% were distracted changing the radio.

Louis Tomlinson, member of boyband One Direction, has been caught speeding as he made his way back from V Festival.
Tomlinson was pulled over by police after he was caught travelling 48mph in a 40mph zone. He was given his first three points on his licence and a fine.
The points could be a bigger problem for Tomlinson, who has been driving for less than two years, as another three points for a motoring offence would see his licence revoked.

A teenage motorcyclist who deliberately set off 26 speed cameras given German police the finger in each one has been fined £4,000.
Dimitri Salovic, hid registration number before riding through Munich at speeds of up to 70mph.
Police finally arrested Salovic after working out a pattern to his route and set up an undercover traffic team to monitor when he would next strike.
Salovic had his licence seized after 78 points were added to it. He will also face further charges for driving on a provisional licence which only allowed him to use scooters and mopeds.

Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar has been fined £1,000 and had seven penalty points imposed onto his driving licence over speeding charges.
The South African was previously found guilty in his absence for failing to disclose who was driving his Aston Martin DBS after it was twice caught speeding last October.
At Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court, those convictions were withdrawn after he admitted to two counts of speeding as he was unaware of the earlier allegations.
The court heard how his Aston Martin was caught by a fixed speed camera doing 38mph and 43mph in the same 30mph zone.
He was given a £1,000 fine plus £175 in legal costs along with seven penalty points for both charges.

A lorry driver who drove his truck ‘erratically’ along the A14, has been banned from driving for 30 months.
Marek Wojtasik, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence, insufficient daily rests and insufficient weekly rests contravening driver hours regulations.
Wojtasik, was arrested after reports from members of the public of seeing his lorry being driven erratically.
Appearing at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court, along with the ban, Wojtasik was fined £1,000.

Plymouth Argyle manager Carl Fletcher has apologised to a court after he caught speeding.
Fletcher, persuaded magistrates’ to reopen his case after he was previously convicted in his absence.
He was previously found guilty of failing to identify the driver, but Fletcher said he knew nothing about the case until it appeared in a local newspaper as his mother-in-law had misplaced the court summons.
Magistrates’ set aside the conviction and allowed him to plead guilty to speeding.
The court heard how Fletcher’s Audi Q7 was caught by a camera at 40mph in a 30mph zone.
Fletcher said originally both himself and his wife were driving the car on that day but they could not remember who was driving at that particular moment.
Magistrates fined him £330, ordered that he pay £65 in costs and £15 surcharge. His licence was also endorsed with three penalty points.

A court has heard how a woman drove at 116mph with her grandchild in the car because the youngster was sick.
Margaret Whitfield, drove at nearly 50mph over the speed limit because she was eager to get the boy home.
She pleaded guilty to exceeding the 70mph speed limit.
Representing herself at Plymouth Magistrates’ Court, the court heard how Whitfield had a clean licence and does not usually speed, but just wanted to get her grandchild home.
Magistrates banned her from driving for 14 days, fined her £300, ordered that she pay £60 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

A man has admitted to drink driving after getting behind the wheel of his vehicle after a night out drinking to celebrate his new job.
Alan Henderson, pleaded guilty to drink driving when he appeared before Worcester Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard how, Henderson had previously been out of work for seven months and on the night in question, was out celebrating a new role that would net him roughly £35,000 a year.
He had walked home but became concerned about the safety of his new company car, so walked back to town to get it. Police Officers stopped his vehicle and Henderson told them ‘I’m in trouble now, I’ve been drinking.’
Magistrates’ banned Henderson from driving for 18 months and fined him £85.
Henderson now finds himself in the position where he will lose that new employment and be unable to get any other in the trade as long as he is disqualified.

A Police Community Support officer has asked a court not to ban him after being caught speeding for a fifth time.
PCSO Dave Johnson, already has nine points on his licence and could face a driving ban which could cost him his job.
Johnson, yesterday before magistrates in Burnley to plead exceptional hardship and try to keep his license.
He was caught doing 37mph in a 30mph zone last year. This was the fifth time he had been caught speeding since 2008 and has received three points on his licence on three occasions and completed a speed awareness course on the other.
The court heard how, Johnston, covers a rural area of Burnley and any form of ban could have a serious impact his duties. He has also been made aware that there is a possibility he could lose his job if he couldn’t transfer to another patch where he did not need to drive.
The case was adjourned until May 17 for Johnson to obtain information from his bosses about the impact of a driving ban on his job.
