Speed Cameras

There are over 50 different types of speed recording devices, including laser, radar, red light, Gatso, etc. All cameras, and the way they are operated, are subject to strict rules. Failure by the police to comply with these rules means that the case against you may fail.

Did you know that you cannot be convicted solely on the evidence of one police officer alone? Did you know that the speed reading from a Gatso Camera is only ‘primary’ evidence and you should not be convicted without ‘secondary’ evidence?

Marcus has produced booklets detailing all the questions you should ask the police. These can be downloaded from the Document Downloads page. Booklets can also be downloaded relating specifically to laser and radar devices, including the Gatso camera.

The police are not going to tell you if they have breached the rules, or if they have made a mistake.  They may not even know if they have made a mistake - and neither will you! In 99% of cases the officer’s word is never challenged and this may lead the police into taking short cuts and not doing everything they should.  The police just expect you to plead guilty, and many people do so without ever seeing the evidence (or lack of it)!

As part of the initial work that Marcus will undertake on your behalf he will identify the precise camera used along with all the rules and regulations applicable to your case.  He will then check whether the police and the prosecution have complied fully. The police very rarely supply adequate documentation to you and this may be because they do not have it.

For example, have you seen a photograph of your alleged speeding incident? If so, why only one? In many cases it is not possible to legally prove a speeding case against you unless the police are able to show two or more different photographs. Did you also know that the case may fail if the police cannot show evidence of their own calibration checks (not those from the manufacturer) relating to their use of the camera on the day in question.

Marcus has been involved with cases where ‘experienced’ police traffic officers did not to know how to operate their own speed cameras! More information can be found on the Testimonials page.

For an informal discussion of your case please telephone Marcus on 07810 804464.  If you would prefer not to telephone, please complete the online assessment form.
