‘Dangerous’ tailgaters targeted in Cambridgeshire
A recent campaign targeting tailgaters and middle-lane hoggers in Cambridgeshire has netted hundreds of motorists.
A total of 20 tailgaters were among 235 careless drivers who were caught by Cambridgeshire police traffic officers since new laws came into force in August 2013.
A spokesman for Cambridgeshire police said: ‘Our road policing officers are committed to reducing the number of people killed or injured on the county’s roads by tackling those offences that put road users a risk.
‘Motorists should always keep a safe distance from the vehicle in front to give themselves the necessary time to react if need be. Tailgating is dangerous and irresponsible and officers will not hesitate to penalise offenders.’
More than 40 drivers received a Traffic Offence Report for lane hogging. 28 for over or undertaking and 30 motorists received a ticket for inappropriate speed.
