A teacher has been handed a warning after being caught drink driving twice – including an incident which saw him speed at 85mph in a 40mph zone.
Andrew Jeffrey was nearly twice the legal drink drive limit when he was stopped by police. Officers said his speed at one point reached 100mph and he was handed a 20-month driving ban after the incident in 2009.
But just five months after getting his license back, Jeffrey was caught drink driving again after he intended to move his car 500 metres to avoid a parking fine but crashed into a taxi after becoming ‘distracted’ behind the wheel.
Police attended and noticed he appeared unsteady on his feet. He was three times the drink drive limit and was banned from driving for a further three years.
The teacher blamed rugby culture on his former binge-drinking lifestyle which he deeply regrets and has sought help to change his drinking habits to avoid further convictions.
