An increasing number of motorists have been caught speeding in the past year – including one who was clocked at 133mph.
Leicestershire Police last year recorded a total of 43,458 speeding offences, an increase from the 37,188 compared to the previous year.
A survey of 1,500 motorists conducted by insurance company, LV, found that 71 per cent could not correctly identify the speed limit for a range of road conditions.
LV, asked for speeding figures from 51 police forces across the UK and received responses from 36. In those areas, the company found there were 955,459 incidents of speeding in 2011.
Sussex police reported the highest motorist caught speeding was at 152mph.
