Police made me speed, says driver
Vehicle thief Bobby Loveridge, who led police on a 100mph chase, blamed the pick-up trucks owners for leaving it unlocked and officers for chasing him.
The 20-year old, appeared at Cambridge Crown Court having previously pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicle taking, driving without a license, driving without insurance and possessing a bladed article in public.
The court heard how, police were driving to the scene of an attempted car theft when they saw the pick-up truck travelling at speed in the opposite direction. They followed the vehicle which was travelling at between speeds of 80mph to 100mph.
The chase came to an end when Loveridge lost control of the vehicle and was arrested.
Loveridge was given a 12-month jail term suspended for two years with a two-year supervision order and 150 hours of unpaid work.
